  Dominoes Glossary

 

 

 

All Fives - A dominoes variation. Players get extra points every time they can get the open ends of the chain to add up to a variable of five. This game and is also referred to as Fives, Five-Up and Muggins.

Board Count – The sum of pips on the open ends of the domino chain.

Bone(s)
-  The basic game piece is divided into two halves with a number of black markings (pips) on the face of each end. Also referred to as domino, dom or tile.

Boneyard – The common pile of bones from which players must draw if they have no playable dominoes in their hand.

Domino(es) - The name of the game is also the term used when a player plays all of their dominoes and wins the hand.

Dominoes Points – The points awarded to the player that wins the round determined by the amount of pips left in the hands of the losing players. If the winner has played all of their dominoes, they score the sum total of opponents' pips. If the winner has won due to the fact that there are no more moves possible, they win the sum of the difference between their pip total and each of their opponents pip totals.

Double Six – A dominoes set consisting of 28 bones numbered from 0|0 to 6|6.

Double Nine – A dominoes set consisting of 55 bones numbered from 0|0 to 9|9.

Doublet – A bone with the same amount of pips on each half.

Draw – All Fives (the standard on MSN games) is one of many variants of the Draw game. If a player does not have a match, they must draw dominoes from the boneyard until they get one.

Pip(s) – The markings on a bone.

Round – A session of gameplay that lasts until a player dominoes.

The Set – The first bone played.

Spinner – The first doublet played. Players can play off all four sides of the Spinner.
