“When downloading MSN Game files I receive the following error message ”Failed to extract file C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~9\TEMP\filename” where filename is the name of any MSN Game file”

This issue can occur if the Zone.zat or Zextract.exe files are damaged or outdated, or the file referred to in the error message is damaged. To resolve this issue follow the steps below:

Remove and Reinstall the Zone.zat and Zextract.exe Files

To remove and reinstall the Zone.zat and Zextract.exe files, follow the steps below.

Step 1

Open My Computer, the C:\ drive, the Program Files folder, and then the MSN Gaming Zone folder

Step 2

Locate the Zone.zat file. Click once to highlight it and press the Delete key to remove this file. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Step 3

Open the TEMP folder inside the MSN Gaming Zone folder.

Step 4

Locate the zextract.exe file. Click once to highlight it and press the Delete key to remove this file. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Step 5

Close the TEMP folder.

Step 6

Go to http://games.msn.com

Step 7

Start the game again and the missing files will be automatically installed.

Remove and Reinstall the File Named in the Error Message

If the file in the error message is different then the Zone.zat and Zextract.exe files, follow the steps below.

Step 1

Open My Computer, the C:\ drive, the Program Files folder, and then the MSN Gaming Zone folder

Step 2

Locate the file that occurred in the error message. If you do not see the file it may be located in another folder. Try looking for it in the TEMP folder, ZSetup folder, Common folder, or the Game folder.

Step 3

Once you locate that file, click once to highlight it and press the Delete key to remove this file. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Step 4

Close the folder.

Step 5

Go to http://games.msn.com

Step 6

Start the game again and the missing files will be automatically installed.
