“Inviting a friend”

Install the latest version of Windows LIVE Messenger

“Invite a Friend” requires Windows LIVE Messenger* to send and accept invitations. To access this feature, you and your friends all need to be signed into Messenger. Additionally, each player needs to install the latest version of Windows LIVE Messenger to use this feature.

You can download and install a free of copy of newest version of Windows LIVE Messenger by going to the link below and clicking Download Now.

To start Messenger, follow these steps.

Step 1

Click Start, point to Programs or All Programs and click Windows LIVE Messenger.

Step 2

Click Sign in and sign in to Messenger with your MSN Games account information.

Step 3

You can now use the “Invite a Friend” option in the game.

*To learn about the Messenger instant messaging program, view the Messenger website.

Install game software

Before starting a game, make sure each player has installed game software by launching the game.

Step 1

Go to MSN Games and sign into MSN Games with your Windows LIVE Messenger account.

Step 2

Click Free Online on the top navigation bar. Then, locate the game in the list of games and click it.

Step 3

Click Play Now to start the game. When prompted, install game software.

“Invite a friend” directions

“Invite a Friend” is a feature that allows you to invite any player on your Windows LIVE Messenger list to a game. It’s a great way to share the fun with everyone!

Note:  If you are playing Catan Online, your friends do not need subscriptions to play an “Invite a Friend” game with you.

Step 1

Sign into Windows LIVE Messenger with your MSN Games account information.

Step 2

Open a game and click Invite a Friend.

Step 3

Select the game type and click Invite (open) to fill a seat.

Step 4

Your Friends list will open and list all your available Messenger Friends. Click your friend’s name and then click Invite.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to fill any empty seats, or select the option to fill seats with random (Quick Match) players or with computer players.

Step 5

If a friend has played the game before, wait for that friend to join the game. (Be sure everyone has installed the software before accepting an invitation.)

Step6

When all players have successfully joined, click Start Game to begin.

Known issue with Windows Vista™

There is a bug in Windows Vista, where a Windows Vista player can send an invitation but not accept one if Protected Mode is enabled in Internet Explorer. (MSN Games does NOT recommend disabling this feature.) We are aware of the problem and are working on resolving it.
