| All-In – When a player bets all of their chips.
Ante – A mandatory bet that all players must make before betting begins. In this Texas Hold'Em game, the Ante is replaced with Blinds.
Bad beat – Losing a bet despite possessing a highly-ranked hand, especially if the winning hand was not favored to win.
Bet – To place chips into the pot.
Blinds Small Blind – A mandatory bet that the player to the left of the dealer must make before the cards are dealt. Big Blind – A mandatory bet that the player to the left of the small blind must make before the cards are dealt.
Board cards/ the Board – see Community cards
Brick – A community card that shouldn't help anyone's hand or complete any draws.
Burn card – The card that the dealer discards before dealing the flop, turn or river.
Buy-in – The amount of chips a player stakes in order to participate in the game.
Check –When it is a player's turn and they do not bet but retain the option to bet or raise later in the round.
Chips – Colored counters of different denominations used to represent a player's bet. Chips are assigned dollar amounts but, as a reminder, there is no real money involved in Bicycle® Texas Hold'Em.
Chipping up – Removing lower-denomination chips from play and adding higher-denomination chips, as the number of players decrease and bets get larger. Also known as Coloring up.
Coloring up – see Chipping up
Community cards – Cards dealt face up in the middle of the table that all players can use to form their hand. Also known as Shared cards, Board cards or simply referred to as the Board.
Connectors – Two pocket cards in sequence. (Ex. 8-9)
Dealer – The player whose turn it is to shuffle and deal the cards.
Dealer button – A marker that indicates who is the dealer for the current hand.
Down cards – see Pocket cards
Fish – A bad player who regularly loses money. They are preyed on by sharks.
The Flop – The first three community cards dealt face up at the same time.
Fourth Street – See the Turn.
Heads up play – When just two players remain in the game and take turns as dealer.
Hole cards – see Pocket cards
Kicker – Any card or cards that are left after forming a 2, 3, or 4-card poker hand.
Loose – A person who plays in a lot of hands.
Nuts – The best possible hand at any point in the game given the cards on the board.
On Tilt – Playing more aggressively after losing a close hand.
On a Rush – Betting more liberally after winning a big hand.
Playing the Board – Using the five community cards for your hand ignoring your two pocket cards.
Pocket cards – The two cards that are dealt face down to each player. Also known as Pocket or Down cards.
Poker Hand – The combination of five cards from a single deck of 52 cards.
Pot – The chips in the center of the table that the players have all wagered and are trying to win.
Pre-flop – The round of betting that occurs after the deal but before the flop is revealed.
Rank – The value of the card.
The River – The fifth/final community card dealt face up by the dealer. Also known as Fifth Street.
Runner – A card that you have to draw to improve your hand.
Shared cards – see Community cards
Side pot – Additional pot or pots created after one or more players goes All-In, and other players continue to raise the bet. Only players who participate in a side-pot are eligible to win it.
Split pot –When two or more players share the same winning poker hand and the pot is equally divided amongst them. Note – In MSN Games' Bicycle® Texas Hold'Em game, if there are odd chips in a split pot: starting with a winning player to the left of the dealer, give one chip to the winner until the pot is depleted.
Shark – A good player who regularly wins money. They prey upon fish.
Suit – The symbol on the card. (Spade, Heart, Diamond, Club)
Suited connectors – Two pocket cards of the same suit in sequence. (Ex. 8H-9H)
Tell – An unconscious behavior that gives opponents an indication of the player's hand.
Texas Hold'Em - A derivative of Seven Card Stud using community cards. Players are dealt two cards face down (the pocket cards), then five community cards are dealt in intervals – first three cards at once (the Flop), then one (the Turn) and one final card (the River). Betting occurs after each deal.
Tight –A person who doesn't participate in many hands.
The Turn –The fourth community card dealt face up by the dealer. Also known as Fourth Street.
